Why Are Your Heroines So Very Rich?
Piety Grey in The Earl Next Door was the first in a long line of heroines with lots of money but other pressing problems that money cannot solve. The riches are useful, but these women are forced to use their own brains and courage and talents to solve whatever challenges they meet.
As much as well love Cinderella (or not), the notion of a rich heroine instead of a destitute one, especially a heroine who may have more material wealth than the hero, interests me. It levels the playing field between the couple in a way that I find fascinating.
I’ve yet to write a poor-as-a-church-mouse heroine who meets a rich man who sweeps her away to a better life. That’s just not my fantasy (but there’s still time, I suppose!).
